The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center and other Colorado groups are organizing people to go into the Congressional offices to insist that Congress people vote against the Iraq $93 billion supplemental budget and pass binding legislation to prohibit the Bush Administration from attacking Iran (with the penalty of impeachment if Bush does attack Iran). There has been a continuing series of visits day after day by small teams to the offices of Senator Salazar and Representative Udall, leading up to the vote on the supplemental war budget.

Both members of Congress have also said they want the war to end, but that they will vote for the $93 billion supplemental budget. The Occupation Project will continue until the Congress people publicly commit to stop funding the war.

What people are asking of their Congress people:

  • Vote against the $93 billion supplemental funding bill for the Iraq war. Stopping the funding is the only way the war will end, given the Bush Administration insistence on victory in Iraq.
  • Forbid a US attack on Iran: Given the consequences, Congress needs to enact legislation that makes a US attack on Iran illegal, such as the Iran Nuclear Non-Proliferation Act of 2007 introduced in the House by Rep. Barbara Lee.
  • Inform the president that he will be impeached if he attacks Iran. Congress, however, if it fails to do its duty beforehand, will be complicit in any crime that Mr. Bush commits.

All participants are asked to take part in a two-hour Nonviolence and Briefing trainings at the Rocky Mtn Peace and Justice Center (3970 Broadway, Suite 105, Boulder CO 80304). All participants in the project are asked to be totally nonviolent in word and action during their visits. People will receive information packages and a large colorful patch that they can wear pinned to their shirt while in the offices. It reads: STOP IRAQ WAR FUNDING. Both nonviolence and technical information briefing will be part of the trainings. The RMPJC is not organizing civil disobedience (alhtough it is providing nonviolence training), which is being organized independently of the Center
