LEGISLATIVE ACTION TO END IRAQ WAR FUNDING:
In early February, President Bush will most likely submit his administration’s request for an additional $100 billion or more to fund the wars in Iraq. He will likely submit this request just prior to or shortly after February 5, at the same time that he submits his proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
You should contact your Representatives and Senators and request that they publicly pledge to vote against any supplemental spending bill which President Bush submits to Congress to fund the Iraq war.
The Occupation Project is providing a sample letter that you can modify and use to contact your legislators to demand that they make such a public pledge.
The Occupation Project is also providing a Pledge to Vote Against 2007 Supplemental Funding for the Iraq War.
When your Representative and Senators have signed onto the Pledge, please let us know at the campaign so that we can publicize those legislators are making the Pledge.
FAX – THEN MAIL – YOUR LETTER
When possible, you should fax rather than mail your letter. There is still a lengthy delay in the processing of letters once they reach the mail room of Congress. Then, after faxing your letter, mail the original to your Representative or Senator.
FINDING CONTACT INFORMATION FOR YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND SENATORS
The website, Contacting Congress is an excellent resource. Go to this site, enter your address, and all the relevant contact information comes up, including: phone number, fax number, website, mailing address, information for local district offices, etc.
You can also find contact information for members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees and other committees on this site.
FOLLOW-UP WITH A PHONE CALL
Within a day or two of faxing your letter, follow-up with a phone call to the Representative or Senator’s office. Emphasize that you expect them to vote against the 2007 supplemental spending bill for the Iraq war.
LET US KNOW IF YOUR REPRESENTATIVE PLEDGE TO VOTE AGAINST WAR FUNDING
Contact us via email, or phone 773-878-3815 to let us know which of your Representative and Senators take the pledge.
